Diet pill side effects will most likely come, like it or not. Despite their great impact, diet pills also have other impacts. Some are minor. Some are a bit more serious. • Oily bowel movements. The technical name is steatorrhea, and although you may not be able to pronounce it, you’ll know it if you have it. Orlistat (Xenical) is the number one culprit of this side effect.
• High blood pressure. Hypertension, or high blood pressure, is something to take notice of. While many people face moderately high blood pressure on a regular basis, a sudden spike of extremely high blood pressure should be something you consult with your doctor about. High blood pressure can lead to strokes, heart attacks, or an aneurysm.
• Increased heart rate and heart palpitations. This side effect is easy to notice—a sudden spike in heart rate without being prompted by noticeable external factors such as vigorous exercise or sudden excitement. Higher heart rate can cause you to feel breathless or dizzy. The occurrence of heart palpitations or even tachycardia is another symptom experienced by some diet pill users. Although this side effect is rarely fatal, it is still serious, and is something you should monitor closely.
• Constipation. On the opposite end of the extreme from steatorrhea is constipation. Often, this happens when taking appetite-suppressing diet pills. This can be a painful, embarrassing, and debilitating condition. Stool softeners, available as an OTC drug, can help in easing the discomfort.
