Diet pills, as we all know too well, come with a heavy share of dubious, lofty, and flat-out ridiculous claims. Here are several types of weight loss pills that you should reject without further consideration.

• A diet pill that claims to take fat off certain parts of your body. Scientific as it the explanation may sound, diet pills aren’t going to trim down those hips alone. Diet pills aren’t smart enough to go knock on your favored fat spots. Yes, you may see an overall slimdown, but just because a diet pill is called “thigh master” doesn’t mean that it burns away thigh fat only.
• A diet pill that claims to eliminate your obesity without requiring exercise or diet changes. Diet pills are part of a three-pronged war on obesity, which also includes exercise and nutrition. Lose one factor, and you’re losing the battle against extra weight. Only trust a diet pill whose instructions include the reminder to stick with the exercise and dieting.
• A diet pill that promises to remove the single, persistent cause for your weight gain. Occasionally, diet pills get just a bit too hung up on one factor in the fight against excess weight. Sometimes, it’s sugar. Other times it’s cortisol. Might be HGH, adrenalin, or even a detox compound. Whatever the claim, your weight loss is not going to be solved by the rifle pill that will nail your malphigian pyramid (or whatever else) and fix your weight problem forever hereafter.

Scams, by their very definition, prey on ignorance. Don’t be ignorant, and you won’t fall prey. But in order not to be ignorant, you’ve got to focus on staying informed, reading a lot, and doing your research. It will pay off.
