“It won’t take long!”

“Now that I’m taking diet pills, I’ll be skinny in no time.” So goes another diet pill myth—a myth just begging to be busted. Because they are pills, and because anything in pill form is supposed to be quick and easy, diet pills are mistakenly viewed as a quick and easy kibosh to the obesity problem. In reality, diet pills are an important part of losing weight, but it’s going to take some time.

Diet Pill Duration

Most prescription diet pills have relatively short-duration treatment times—anywhere from six weeks to three months. Because of the short time of treatment, one might think that they will lose a lot of weight during that several-week period. However, diet pills are only intended to get one started, not finished, with weight loss. Even three months can be a long time, especially when the daily or hourly pilgrimage to the scales or glance in the mirror reveals very little appreciable change.

Diet Pills and Prescription Treatments

Usually, doctors prescribe diet pills for those with a severe obesity condition—having a BMI of 30 or above. Once someone drops below the 30 mark, they may not be eligible for a prescription-strength diet pill from their doctor. If this is the case, they should expect that weight loss is going to slow down—way down. Diet pills  increase the speed of weight loss so much that it seems that being off the diet pill is a reversal, or at least a stop, compared with the speedy weight loss that was once experienced.

Diet Pills and the journey that follows

Diet pills are not a life-long treatment. In order to successfully defend against weight gain, you must implement practices that will permanently end it. What will permanently end it? Regular exercise and careful eating. Regular exercise is a life thing. Come to think of it, careful eating is a life thing, too. That means that your battle against obesity isn’t going to end with a bottle of pills. They will help you, but they are only the beginning. Your battle may last the rest of your life.

How will it take to completely end the battle against being overweight? However long it takes you to develop the necessary self-discipline to make those tough choices on a day-by-day basis. But that’s not meant to be a discouragement—just a dose of reality. Now, get up and get some exercise.
